US Presidential Election 2024 : The 2024 presidential election commenced this week in Iowa, marking the beginning of the race with the state hosting its inaugural caucuses. Former US President Donald Trump secured a significant victory with an unprecedented margin, solidifying his dominance within the party and signaling his intention for a 2020 rematch against incumbent Joe Biden.
During the Iowa caucuses on the night of January 15, Trump strategically diverged from his usual confrontational style, opting instead to congratulate his GOP rivals. This strategic move contributed to his advancement toward the Republican nomination, even though he chose to skip the GOP primary debates.
In a remarkable departure from tradition, Trump initiated his bid for the party’s third consecutive presidential nomination. The election results underscored the steadfast support of Republicans for Trump, despite the unconventional nature of his campaign marked by legal challenges, indictments, and attempts to remove him from ballots.
The Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis, secured a distant second place with eight delegates, while former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley closely followed with seven delegates, setting the stage for the contest’s shift to New Hampshire, where Haley holds some influence.
It is noteworthy that the selection processes for Republican and Democratic candidates differ, with caucuses and primaries being the respective methods. Most US states opt for primaries, but certain Republican strongholds, like Iowa, employ caucuses to elect delegates. These delegates then play a crucial role in voting at the convention.

While there is relatively less activity on the Democratic side, with President Joe Biden expected to secure the nomination due to his popularity among party voters, some intraparty competitors like author Marianne Williamson and Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips are participating in the New Hampshire Democrats’ unofficial primary on January 23, aiming to boost their (US Presidential Election 2024) longshot campaigns.
The Republican National Convention is scheduled for July 15-18 in Milwaukee, while the Democrats will hold their convention in Chicago from August 19-22. These national conventions mark the formal conclusion of the primary phase of the 2024 (US Presidential Election 2024) election, with the general election campaign expected to intensify leading up to Election Day on November 5.
