Microsoft and Alphabet : Top executives from Microsoft Corp. and Alphabet Inc. are embarking on a tour of India over the upcoming week to engage with the country’s vast community of programmers and promote the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) services in this crucial market.
Why Microsoft and Alphabet Focus on India
Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, will be addressing developers and technologists in Bangalore, India’s technology hub, focusing on “exploring new avenues with AI.” Additionally, he will discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with advanced AI during his interactions with industry leaders in Mumbai.
Similarly, Google’s chief scientist, Jeff Dean, will be sharing insights on the next frontiers of AI with researchers, developers, and startups in Bangalore. He will also participate in a discussion about India’s role in leveraging AI to drive significant societal impact.
These concurrent events underscore the significance of India for both companies (Microsoft and Alphabet) and the broader AI sector. With over 5 million programmers, India is emerging as a major reservoir of AI talent for startups and global enterprises, especially given the current scarcity of AI expertise worldwide. Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia Corp., previously noted during a tour of India that the country has the potential to become the world’s largest exporter of AI know-how.
According to Nandan Nilekani, chairman of Infosys Ltd., one of Asia’s leading technology services firms, “The Indian developer will play a central role in the global shift toward AI over the next five to ten years.” He emphasizes that Indian developers will shape the landscape of AI technology, determining which AI systems dominate the market in India and world.
