US Presidential Election 2024 : During a rally in New Hampshire, the ex-President of the United States, Donald Trump, seemed to mistakenly identify Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina and United Nations ambassador, as Nancy Pelosi, the former House Speaker, while discussing the events of the January 6 Capitol riots in 2021.
In response, Haley raised concerns about Trump’s mental acuity on Saturday, pointing to his apparent confusion between her and Pelosi. She expressed reservations about having a president whose mental fitness could be called into question, particularly under the demanding pressures of the presidency.
As reported by CNN, Trump stated at the (US Presidential Election 2024) New Hampshire rally, “By the way, they never report the crowd on January 6. You know, Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley…did you know they destroyed all of the information, all of the evidence, everything, deleted and destroyed all of it? All of it, because of lots of things, like Nikki Haley is in charge of security, we offered her 10,000 people, soldiers, national guards, whatever they want. They turned it down.”
It’s important to note that during the time of the Capitol riots, Haley was not a member of Congress and was instead working in the private sector.
Expressing her concern over Trump’s statement linking her to the 2021 Capitol riots, Haley stated, according to CNN, “The concern I have is – I’m not saying anything derogatory, but when you’re dealing with the pressures of a presidency, we can’t have someone else that we question whether they’re mentally fit to do it.”
Haley’s outspoken criticism of Trump represents a departure for a former US presidential candidate (US Presidential Election 2024) who generally refrained from direct attacks on her former boss. Despite her efforts to distance herself from him in the Republican race, she had previously avoided sharp criticism until recently.
